About Journey to Freedom:

An unlikely meeting...
Marrissa is running away, as fast as her feet can carry her. After enduring the abuse at the hands of her employer for years, she has finally found the strength to strike out on her own, and now she has been unceremoniously thrust into an adventure with a man she doesn't know. But things become more serious when she and her companion are taken in by the Cherokee. After enduring attempts on her life at the hands of a jealous wife, Marrissa must once again leave people behind and make her own way. But this time she might be leaving true love behind.

An undying devotion...
Greggory longs to be a free man. Facing the violent prejudices against him as a half breed, and running from the high price set on his head by the owner of the plantation he used to belong to, he never expected to find peace and happiness with the young woman at his side. But the more time he spends with Marrissa, the more he realizes she is the one for him, and when evidence points to her untimely demise, he vows to gain his freedom and love no one else. But fate might not be done with him yet, and Greggory may have a second chance at the life he first glimpsed in Marrissa's eyes.

A timeless love...
Set amid the tumultuous backdrop of the American Civil War, Journey to Freedom, chronicles the harrowing misadventures of two star-crossed lovers through nineteenth century America, battling violence, prejudice, and the inherent struggles of their time. Join author K-Trina Meador for a touching saga of love, faith, and survival.

What readers are saying:

~ The Journey to Freedom made me feel as if I were right in the era of racism and prejudice with Marissa and Greggory.

~ The struggles the characters must go through to reach where they need to be in life is quite extraordinary.

~ K Meador's Journey to Freedom is an epic tale, of love and tragedy, of want and devastation, of passion and bigotry, set in a time of shame for those with hearts unable to encompass compassion for all.

About Their Journey Begins:

A prequel featuring individual short story vignettes of Greggory, Robert, Marissa, and Daniel before their lives converge in Journey to Freedom.

Greggory is a half-breed; a mix of Indian and black blood, and struggles both emotionally and
physically with hatred and prejudice.

Robert is a slave on a Florida plantation who takes in the starving, angry young Greggory, under his wing and helps him grow into a man of honor.

Marrissa is a young girl who watches her mother waste away working as a maid in the saloon. Dodging the advances of the owner and his threats to put her in service, Marrissa dreams of having a better life and strikes out on her own after her mother's death.

Daniel is an introvert who finds safe haven away from civilization and his past. His business of trapping is successful and he finds contentment in the simple life he leads until he has two visitors.

There are no spoilers in this book so it can be read before or after Journey to Freedom.

What readers are saying:

~ Each short story is written in the voice of a character, and takes the reader through a vat of varying emotions.

~ The Journey Begins is a beginning, and an end, an interconnecting of lives interrupted, ripped away, by a society of oppression, a dark period in American history, when slaves were considered possessions.

~ Although their backgrounds are very different, there is an underlying theme in their individual struggles for survival and freedom.

About Transcendence:
Transcendence is a collection of poetry for the soul written from the author's perspective spanning the time period between 1998 and 2012. The poems cover topics such as depression, death, alcoholism, spirituality, hope, and love.

What readers are saying:

~ K. Meador writes beautiful poetry straight from the heart.

~ Her poems inspire and help the reader understand about life, loss, love, and spirituality a little more than they did when they started reading.

Excerpt:

The silence in the room was only disturbed by the beeping of the machine indicating that the woman was still alive. Barely; by all accounts she should be dead. The multitude of unseen warriors listened to the beeps interrupting the silence as they dwelled on what had just been said.

Twenty of them moved around the hospital bed standing shoulder to shoulder with no gap between them as they stared at the injured and unmoving woman. Every other one lifted their arms, expanding their wings and covered the angel on either side of them forming a solid white wall with no gaps able to be seen. The hedge of protection around her was strong and complete.

The angels heard their enemy approach boldly into the room making no qualms as to their intentions. They were arrogant and fierce, breathing lies, hate, manipulation, deception and fire. Their tongues forked out as a sharpened sword and they attacked the angels standing ten deep around the bed.

Swords glistened in the fluorescent hospital light as the battle continued…only on different turf this time. The clang of the swords, cries of the injured and despairs of death created a cacophony of sounds that went unheard by the patients in the room next to her, and to the staff who carried on about their duties as scheduled.

Tongues slithering, swords slicing, and armor being penetrated, one demon in a fit of boldness charged forward into the mass and made it to the inner row of angels who had created the hedge of protection. Before the demon was cut down in death, he drew his sword high in the air slamming it downward cutting off an angel’s wing creating a gap in the hedge.

And it was in that gap that allowed the nurse to do what she had doubted that she could do as she left the nurses’ station and briskly walked down the hallway. Entering the room almost at a run she paused at the doorway catching her breath as a bead of sweat broke out on her forehead.

An angel moved to replace the injured one but it was too late. The hedge had been broken. The enemy moved in.

At the edge of the bed the enemy stood looking at the coma induced woman and with her heart beating fast with adrenaline, a bead of sweat started on her forehead, slowly rolling down her face as she pulled the syringe out, and sucked it full of air.

It was in that moment that the battle paused. Both the angels and demons turned, eyes wide - watching, heads turned - listening…beep, beep, beep, beep.

The nurse picked up the woman’s arm and held it in position, and lowered the needle. beep, beep, beep…….
