Today's Author Interview is with Ariel Marie from Cleveland, Ohio. Ariel Marie fell in love with books at an early age. She can remember her first favorite book was Mickey Meets the Giant. She read the book so many times that it fell apart and she was devastated! Fast-forward thirty years later, Ariel now writes books she hopes readers will fall in love with and read over and over. Paranormal romance is her favorite genre. Who doesn’t love Shifters, Witches, Faes and all the other paranormals? She just loves writing about couple’s first meeting, the magnetism of when their eyes first meet and the first kiss! Her favorite part of writing paranormals is creating the world that the characters live in. Make sure you visit her website to get the latest Ariel Marie events and releases!
Ariel, tell us when it was you first realized you wanted to be a writer.
Well, K-Trina, I first started dabbling in writing when I was in the seventh grade. As a child, I use to spend a lot of time in the libraries. After school, the library is where I would go until my parents got off of work. Due to this, I fell in love with books at an early age. I remember saying to myself, I can write a book. I remember buying a large three-ring notebook and began writing a teen mystery. I didn’t own a typewriter yet and computers weren’t really popular yet! My fingers would be sore and would have the imprint of my pencils on them. As I got older I did get away from writing fiction. When I went to college all of free time was spent on studying and reading and writing for pleasure was put off on the back burner of my life. Finally, I have made my way back to writing and reading and decided to follow this other dream.

That is awesome Ariel. I know many authors start when they are in school at a young age even if they don’t pursue it immediately, they return eventually. Just a thought but how long does it take you to write a book?
This would depend on how long the book is. My first book, Power of the Fae actually took me about a month for the first draft. By the time I revised it and did edits, it ended up being about two and a half months. I wanted it to be perfect. The follow up to Power of the Fae, Fight for the Fae, took me about a month to write. I just finished a new book in a separate series and this one took me about the same amount of time. I still have to do edits and revisions to the second and third book so it may take more time. I want the books to be perfect and people to really enjoy the stories that are pouring out of this brain of mine!
Wow! You write fast! What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I do a lot of writing at night and on the weekends. I love writing at night because my house is quiet, there are no interruptions and for some strange reason, my imagination just takes off! There have been plenty of times where I catch myself up at 2 am still writing or fall asleep with my laptop in my lap! This can be troublesome for me since I do have a day job!! Lots of coffee helps me make it through the day!
Coffee is a staple for many authors; I, however, prefer Dr. Pepper! Caffeine me, please… But getting back on topic, what would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I love paranormal romance and the steamier the better. I find that I like to insert jokes or funny sayings into the reading. I can write about a kick-ass heroine who still has a sense of humor. I love to laugh and want to share that with my readers.
That is great. I love to laugh too! Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
There are so many ways that ideas come to me. It could be something I see going on in real life where I’ll say to myself, I have GOT to put that in a book somehow. But ultimately, I would say my imagination is so active. Ideas have been bottled up in this head of mine for so long that now that I am finally putting my stories on paper, they are just flowing out.
Haha! I know what you mean. However, I have to say a lot of my coworkers gives me scenes, sarcastic remarks and personality quirks that I use. I warn them all.
When did you write your first book and how old were you?
My first book, Power of the Fae was just released June 2015 and I’m currently (cough cough) 35 years old. I pursued the first dream of mine, which was to become a nurse. I have been working as a registered nurse for the past 10 years and finally decided to pursue my other dream in life. I think that everyone should attempt to follow their dreams. I don’t want to have any regrets in life and deciding to write my first book is fulfilling a dream whether I am successful or not at it, I can at least say that I did it!
Ahhhh, you are still a young chick! Nurses are awesome! Thank you for doing a thankless job! What do you like to do when you're not writing?
When I am not writing, I love to cook and bake with my daughters. I love searching through websites like Pinterest to find new recipes to try. I also love traveling with my husband and kids on our family road trips.
We are going to have to definitely connect on Pinterest! Of course, my cooking skills are lacking…. What does your family think of your writing?
I have to admit when I first started writing my book; the only person in my family who knew was my husband. I kept it a secret. I wasn’t sure what was going to happen. I ended up telling my family about me writing a book a week before Power of the Fae was released! They were all shocked that I actually did it, but wasn’t shocked that I had a desire to do it. They all knew of my love of books.
You sound like me. I had only told my sister! What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
One thing that I learned is that I have a wild imagination. I sort of knew it but when you see your book coming together and when you finally type in the last word, it is an amazing feeling. I read through my books several times before I’m ready to give it to anyone and I still get blown away that I actually created them.
Give a woman caffeine, a pen and paper, and an imagination and watch out world, here we come! I’m curious, how many books have you written?
So far I have written three books but only Power of the Fae is published. The next book, Fight for the Fae will be released this fall. The other series, named Dark Shadows, I’m not sure when the first installment will come out but I’m hoping for this fall.
I love hearing from my readers. I encourage them to follow me on my social media or even join my newsletter so that they can get up to date information directly from me. It makes me feel good when I get a message from someone who has enjoyed my book. I love reading reviews also. I encourage all readers to make sure that they leave a review on a book that they read, no matter how big or small, we thrive to read reviews on our work.
Newsletters are great! What kinds of things do they say?
Most inquire when the next book, Fight for the Fae will be out. This just makes me smile that some people are craving my next book!
I bet it does! Congrats on your published book and your future books. I am sure they will be hitting the best seller list soon! Thank you for stopping by and sharing your story with us. And, readers, don’t forget to follow Ariel!
